“High Style: The Brooklyn Museum Costume Collection,” Legion of Honor, March 14-July 19



A presentation of more than 60 ready-to-wear garments, haute couture creations, accessories and fashion sketches by American designers including Elizabeth Hawes and Charles James, as well as French couture designers Hubert de Givenchy, Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel and Elsa Schiaparelli. From the Brooklyn Museum Costume Collection at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, they encompass pivotal points in 20th century fashion including the 1930s, ‘40s and ‘50s.

Street Date, Marina and Cow Hollow District, S.F.

For my Street Date this week, I enjoyed imagining what it would be like to wander through the more than 600 acres of the Panama-Pacific International Exposition in 1915. Fortunately, Bernard Maybeck's Palace of Fine Arts still offers a glimpse of that splendor.
