“Anthony Friedkin: The Gay Essay,” de Young Museum, June 14-January 11, 2015

Photographer Anthony Friedkin documented gay communities in San Francisco and Los Angeles between 1969 and 1973, which he entitled “The Gay Essay.” Featuring more than 75 vintage portraits that he shot in bars, dance halls, hotels and on the street, the exhibit also includes contact prints, documents and other materials from his archives.
